Week 11 (Mar 8-14) Think of another heirloom in your home to photograph and identify.
I have a wedding dress that my grandmother made for her sister 100 years ago. It uses limited fabric and minimal decor. I also have the beaded floral head piece that was worn with it. If my kids open up this pillowcase and find these items rolled up in it, will they know the significance of these items? These are from a wedding in England during WWI.
My mother told me that she was going to donate them to a museum in England. I begged to keep them.
How can I display them in my home? How do I remove the wrinkles from the silky dress.

Hi Carolyn -
There's a Family Tree Magazine blog post from 2006 titled "AncestorNews: Caring for Grandma's Wedding Dress" that's archived at the Wayback Machine at this URL https://web.archive.org/web/20090526053728/http://www.familytreemagazine.com/article/AncestorNews-Wedding-Dress-Revisited that has info and links to other resources you can consider for displaying your great-aunt's wedding dress at home.
P.S. How wonderful that you have this, and plan to keep it in your family for future generations!
Best wishes,
Joy

Joy, thank you for sharing this link! I would love to know how to save this dress. I believe that the dress was made out of the material from a used war parachute. I wish that I had written down what my mother told me about this dress. Don't we always think that we will remember the details?
