Help please. Can't read year of date.
Hi,
I've worked in Old English, Spanish, German, French and Latin. I'm looking in the civil records...Catalog, Italy, Palermo, Bagheria. There are 6444 pages. I can read the names, day and month. BUT I can't read the YEARS! I'm trying to find baptisms around 1855 and marriage around 1870. I also looked in the church indexes, and couldn't find Orabello or Scibona anywhere.
If anyone could help me figure out what pages to "start" concentrating my research, l'd be most grateful!

@SueBurnette Can you give us more information? Do you have a film number or a link to the records you are referring to?

Italian years are spelled out, so 1864 would be milleottocentosessantaquattro, they're often stated the first thing in the record.

Thank you. I was having trouble making sense of such a long word!

I "thought" I already posted this, but I don't see it.
1st document, looking for LAST NAME of Paula. And anything else relevant that you can read. Looks like she is a twin? And was born 10 Oct 1818. of Joseph Gangi? and Philippa Lrovaro Lugolui?
2nd document, I know it's a marriage of Vincenzo Segreto and Bridgitha Ferranty on 24 Jan 1874. But I can't read anything else. Whatever else anyone can read would be helpful, especially HIS birthplace. He's supposedly from Calabria, but I don't know the town.
Sorry, I don't have links to them. I printed them a long time ago.
Thank you!

This is the second one above.

This is the first one above. I "think" the last name is Gangi, but I'm not sure. Thanks.

Hi Karen,
Is there something wrong with the system? I post these. They are there, and then they apparently go away?
Thanks, Sue

And now they are there?

@SueBurnette Unfortunately, we are having issues with images uploading correctly. It seems to work fine when they are loaded one at a time so the second time you loaded them in separate comments they loaded. There was still a delay because all images are reviewed before they are viewable. I am going to delete the images that have not loaded since you got them to load separately. So sorry this is not working correctly! Sam 🙄

I can't help with the Latin language but the other problem is the extreme italic writing. I can try to "un-skew" the picture, maybe you or somebody else can then decipher more out of it.

Thank you. That helps. Every little bit gets me closer.

This looks like 3 stages of marriage banns to me.
I can read January 24 1874, Vincenzo Segreto legitimate son of Francesco (?) and Josepha (?) Segreto
and Bridgetha Ferranty daughter of (dead? morto?) ????? and Maria Di Dio.
In Valguerna, Palermo, Sicily, Italy
There's nothing else I can decipher.
Thanks if anyone can help.

So I went a bit further, and came up with a marriage supplement, which I hoped would give me some indication of the birthdate and place of Vincenzo Segreto. But this time it's in Latin. So I've got 7 pages to share, with hopes that someone can help me. I tried to figure out how to "link" to it, but neither the 3 lines, nor right clicking got me to anything that appeared to be a linking device. So I'll have to post them separately, and hope someone can help. Anything anyone can read will be greatly appreciated!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!!

Whoa. The more I study this, I guess it's Italian and not Latin. I'm trying to translate it word for word, but the writing is so bad that I'm not having much luck. I'm getting a lot of the common words. BUT I still cannot see where the groom is from. If anyone can figure out that for me?
I've been looking for birth notices in antenati for Vincenzo Segreto, but of the listings available from 1844 through 1856, I find NO Segretos in Valguarnera, so maybe he is from Calabria, but I can find nothing to verify that either.
Thanks everyone!!!

Hi,
Karen said to keep asking questions, so I am. I "think" I've figured out enough of the above marriage supplement to tell that Vincenzo's birthplace nor birthdate is on it. However, can someone read the second line of the next document? Thats the only place that it "might" say, but I can't make the letters out. Thanks.

The first line says something like "who knows Vincenzo Segreto well" (che conoscono bene Vincenzo Segreto), next part is difficult, last part is "son of" (figlio del) and a name. I guess it's exactly the middle part, that you're after. My guess is that it says from estonian country (paese estone)

The name is Francesco, who was dead at the time.

Thanks. Yes, it is the part you can't read that I'm after -- where Vincenzo comes from.

If it's estoni, then I'm thinking Estonian. But there were no Estonian enclaves in Calabria during that time. And he always wrote his name Vicenzo Segreto de Calabria. He never emigrated, so there are no US records. So I'm still baffled.
