Place Name
Hello. I am trying to figure out a place name. On a child's birth certificate, the place is Krukneitz. On another daughter's birth certificate, the places is Kaushnitz Prussia.
I cannot find Krukneitz or Kaushnitz. Does anyone know what this place is actually named? I would like to find more information about it so I can see if there are any christening records in that area.
Thank you for your help!
Mindy

Hi Mindy,
Meyers Gazeteer website has a pretty good search function that allows you to use wildcards (*) to search for a location. With the information you have, you can search for "K*n*itz" or any other combination of letters and wildcards.

Unfortunately, there are many villages that are somewhat similar to Krukneitz or Kaushnitz.
Are you looking at the actual images of the birth certificates or an index of the birth certificate. It might be helpful to examine the actual images and narrow down the spelling as much as possible.

Would you please tell us from which town the children's birth records are? That is a key piece of information.
Thanks!

Re-reading my post, I see that I did not write it clearly. The girls' birth certificates are in Chicago. The information I am viewing is indexed only currently. It is the father's information on those records that says his birth place is Kaushnitz and then Krukneitz for him.
Thank you for letting me know about the wildcard option on Meyer's Gazetteer. There are quite a few options to choose from!
