Did your ancestor's speak Welsh?
I enjoyed watching this video, so I thought I'd share it here.
This is what the video creator has to say about this... "Something I've learned from researching my Welsh ancestors is that you can find out, from the 1891 census on, which of your ancestors spoke Welsh, English or both - it's in the far right-hand column under 'Languages spoken' but can be easily missed given that it's so far over. I have also put together some other tips in my video below"
I hope you find this useful too 😀

Interesting and thank you. I do get a bit confused with the counties and a Welsh family history researcher definitely needs to have a few historical maps to hand. I live in Powys which is more or less incorporates old Radnorshire and Montgomeryshire. However we still get some official information which calls our neck of the woods Montgomeryshire (in Welsh it is Sir Drefaldwyn meaning "the Shire of Baldwin's town"). Just to make research a bit more fun even though Montgomeryshire has been incorporated into Powys, Montgomeryshire still exists today as the northern part of the principle area of Powys.
Also Montgomery (Welsh: Trefaldwyn; translates to the town of Baldwin), is a small town not far from us. Montgomery is in the Welsh Marches. Just out of interest the Welsh Marches has the largest collection of castles than anywhere else in the UK.
