Need ideas on how to find a birthdate of a German immigrant.
My ancestor George Gerdes immigrated to the German Heritage Corridor in Missouri from Germany around 1868 or 1869. He then moved to Pueblo Colorado and worked as an expresswayman for 27 years where he died in 1900.
In the Colorado 1885 census he is living with his brother Gerd who is 4 years older than him.
I have found a Gerd and Georg Gerdes who are 4 years apart and the ages match. They were born in Hanover (where my George says he is from). I'd like to find something that connects this Georg to my George Gerdes to verify I have found the right one. Any ideas on where I can look? I have exhausted the passenger lists out of Bremen. I ordered his death certificate from Colorado and it says "unknown" for birthdate. His divorce record doesn't give a birthdate, but does give a marriage date of October 8, 1866 in Hanover. I think my best bet is in Missouri just after he arrived in the country.
Here are the PIDS for reference.

Note: Someone has attached a father to my George without any sources. I have not been able to verify if that person really is his father.

Have you contacted the person who attached the father and asked him for his sources or just start a dialogue? I checked the sources, and one person left a link to another site, which you can click to translate into English. I think you will find this document has a lot of interesting information, if it is accurate. You might want to check it out and maybe correspond with the person who posted it. PaulaAnn
