Translation of birth record year 1809
I would appreciate the translation of the birth record year 1809 for Giuseppe Mauro in Sala Consilina, Salerno, Italy. The record is on Antenati: Nati 1809 (Registro 4753), entry 141, image 145.
Thank you, Debra

Number 141 (the birth record of Giuseppe)
Today 21 September 1809 at 3 pm, appeared before me, Mayor of this commune (note: the towns/communes of the Kingdom of Naples were called “Universitas civium” or “Università”), Mr. Generoso Mauro, landowner/ property owner, 62 years old, residing in this commune on Sopra Santo Eustachio Street. The same (person) presented a child that he declared to be his own son born from his legitimate marriage with Mrs. Rosalba Pinto.
Who [the child] was born on 19 September at 2 am, and, according to the declaration, was given the following names: Giuseppe
And the same Mr. Generoso Mauro, landowner/property owner, made and signed the formal declaration in the presence of the mayor and two witnesses, Mr. Giuseppe Pondelli, landowner/property owner, 28 years old, residing in Sala, in the Il Portello neighborhood, and Cosmo Pepe, landowner/property owner, 34 years old, residing in Sala, in the Santa Maria della Grazia neighborhood. The original of the declaration is kept by me in the security volume of this register.
For execution of the law, it [the declaration] has been written in this book.

Thank you very much for the translation of the birth record. The information in this record is helpful for my research because it confirms the age of Generoso Mauro in 1809.
Question: I want to search for the siblings of Giuseppe Mauro. I happened to find the death record of his brother Pietro Mauro who died in Sala on 2 Feb. 1840 and the parents names in the record are Generoso Mauro and Rosalba (I didn't type her surname because the system will add stars). So I know this record is for a brother. On FamilySearch and Antenati, the civil records for Sala Consilina start in the year 1809 and I think that is the first year for civil records. Which means I would search for church records before 1809? I searched the FS catalog and didn't find church records for Sala. Are the records at the FHL on microfilm? I would appreciate any help with this. Thank you.

Yes, you would need to use church records or the Catasto Onciario. If they're not in the catalogue, they weren't filmed by LDS. That doesn't mean these records don't exist elsewhere.

DangKwei,
Thank you for your answer. Do you think the church records would be available only at a parish in Sala Consilina or perhaps online?

They don't seem to be online. You'd have to go there personally or have someone do it for you. Check SIUSA for what they have available first.

Dangkwei,
I searched FamilySearch catalog for Catasto Onciario records and there were several results however none for Sala Consilina. I assume these taxation records would only be available from an archive in Italy? What is SIUSA and how would I check for the availability of church or taxation records? Thank you.

Master list of Catasto Onciario records locations is here:
Seems to be the State Archive in Naples in this case. I don't think these are available online. Link to SIUSA is here:
You can search by town or church name.

DangKwei,
I appreciate the help with the websites you suggested for checking availability of records. However navigating SIUSA (translated to English) was difficult to understand so I couldn't find the information. Thank you.
