What is the name of son on this baptismal record?
This is a baptism record in Wangeritz in 1749 14 Oct. The father's name is Michael Zvant and his wife is the daughter of the mayor. The witnesses I read as Adam Zvant, Christian Schwartz the mayor, and Elisabeth Hoeffs born Krinen.
What is the son's name? Christl.? or Gri? I appreciate the help reading that name.

Hello Christina, I read the name of the son as Christian.
To me the family name of the father seems to be rather Qvant (or Quant), not Zvant. It would help to see another occurrence of Z or Q by the same scribe to make a decision. Both names are quite unusual in Germany, but the Quandt family is well-known as the owner of the BMW car manufacturer.

Christina,
thank you for the additional examples. Still, I am not fully convinced. These occurences of the letter are all for the same name; I would like to see a word or name where I know the letter is a Z or a Q, for example Zacharias. I know that this may be difficult since names with Z and in particular Q are quite rare.
On Ancestry I found a few more records indexed as Zvant, see this example:
You can compare with the letter Z in "Zu" (green). The lower "arc" of the Z is curved in the other direction.
On Ancestry there are 8 exact matches in Germany with "Zvant", but 2102 with "Quant". The 8 occurances of Zvant are similar to the one above and are probably erroneously indexed.

This record does look like a Q, but other records look like a Z and the Zvant in the record is the same name. I'll include a few so you can see the other records. The first is another son's baptism (last entry on page), and their wedding record in 1748.

Thank you for the additional insight. If you think it’s a Qu I definitely defer to your expertise. That is very interesting. I do think most of them look like the example you gave in yellow.

I have an example of the two names next to each other with a Z! You are right, the scribe does them differently, he crosses the Z. This is the baptism record of one of their other children, and a family relation named Eva Maria Quant, born Zastroen is at the bottom. Thank you for your help with deciphering that. I really appreciate the help you've given.
