Hi I was the person who asked the question (it is in the England group). Did you have any ideas? I am stuck as to where to look, I think it may just not have been digitised or written down, or perhaps he was born with a different name.

Go to the login Webpage, (first page that comes up) and look on the lower right hand for listing of names recently viewed. You should find Frederick Small's name. Click that, then it will take you into his Tree. I hope this works.

I thought I'd have a look for you but didn't find anything, from memory (not looking at the moment) but the other Small family in Haddenham had Parish records in a Methodist Church in Oxfordshire, the man with the unusual name.
Were your Small's Methodists?
EurekA books have some publications for Buckinghamshire, including Non Conformist indexes.

Have you tried newspapers?

The Buckinghamshire Family History Society has their own database for Parish Records. If you can't get to one of their libraries like High Wycombe to view it, then you can order by surname by event by time period information about a surname

His descendents weren't Methodist but no reason why his parents wouldn't have been, so it's worth a look, thanks.
Unfortunately I am in the antipodes- getting to High Wycombe would be a mission! Especially with the lockdowns here
Thanks for the info anyway! My guess is that any info of his birth and baptism and prior life just isn't digitised.. The brick wall stands strong.

Sorry I messed up your original feed, Frederick Small 1827 – 1876 KLR5-LC7
All this in Haddenham Buckinghamshire, England
Agrippa Small 1790 – 1851 KZR7-K2K had two daughters,
(1) Elizabeth Small b 1812 G7D5-GNL who married John Adams and first child was born 1829,
(2) Jane Small b 1813 LBCG-VD7 who married Joseph Adams first child b 1835.
Agrippa had a grandchild Sarah Small b 1833 M76S-R35 no parents listed. I'm guessing she was an illegitimate dau of Jane.
So, one possibility was your Frederick was the illegitimate son of Elizabeth. Just an idea. His farther could have been Frederick, but not a Small. Your Frederick jr, could have been living with his paternal grandparents (odd) and using his biological fathers real surname.
Have you tried DNA?
The antipodes sound like a safe place to be nowadays.🌈

Thank you for your analysis, this is definitely a possibility and one that would be hard to prove! I will look further into this family for hopes of finding a link.
Have not tried DNA as I don't know anyone outside of my immediate family to match against.
And yes NZ is a safe place right now, hope all is well for you.

Also, it may be that the Sarah Small (M76S-R35) with unknown parents is the Sarah Adams (G7D5-868) found on the 1841 Census. Not proof of Joseph being the parent but there is no baptismal record attached for Sarah Adams (G7D5-868).
Of note is the baptismal record of a Frederick b. 1828 (M76S-HSV) to a Robert Syeritt (M76S-HS1). No.33 in RG4. Mother is listed as "Jane" with no parents recorded. Also of Haddenham. Interesting, but another record with a Robert Sirat (M76M-TMM) has a spouse of Jane Clark, of Kingsey. Not sure if the two Robert's are the same!

Sarah Small and Sarah Adams look like the same person, I merged the two to see what I could see from that perspective. Computer wouldn't let me unlink Mr Adams as her father. I can put it back if you prefer. Couldn't find Sarah in 1851. Not that this helps you.
British Newspaper Archives has newspapers for Buckinghamshire, it's hit and miss.
If you are willing to do DNA, you will have thousands of matches, near (hopefully) and far. You can work with them to find out who your common ancestors are. Some people wont reply though.
Ancestry is the most popular but you'll be able to see and do more if you have an Ancestry subscription. 23&Me isn't as popular. Family Tree DNA accepts transfers from other sites so you can get two sites for the price of one. There are others sites but I'm not familiar with them.
