Hello there! New to this group and translating family records! I recently obtained a 90 page scanned book of our Oma’s family history all in old Dutch! Any suggestions on how to start? Is there some tech that can scan and translate documents? Appreciate any advice or suggestions!(:

I doubt that you will find app's that can scan and translate Old Dutch,....but you could try to make an account on 'watstaatdaer' or ask questions there about Old Dutch,it's not a translate service , but they will help you with phrases, caracters and difficult cases. It's a nice forum btw.Here=>https://watstaatdaer.nl/

You can learn and use their online tools also

@mikellewills1 I've done a few tests with Transkribus, and up to a certain amount of pages it always was free of charge. Maybe you could try one page? My test was using transkribus for a 16th Century document and I fed the output into Chat GPT to give me a modern translation for it. It wasn't perfect but gave me a good idea of the possibilities.

Ik heb er alleen ff mee gespeeld, omdat ik de 'kracht' wilde leren kennen van Transkribus en het heeft mij echt verbaasd. Het is alleen niet echt heel intuïtief voor een doorsnee (niet technische eindgebruiker)
