Could any of you help with a question from a patron? It's about how much evidence (and what kind of evidence) do you need to seal someone to their parents....?https://community.familysearch.org/s/question/0D53A00004U7VWpSAN/i-believe-i-have-found-my-mothers-birth-mother-dna-has-identified-grandparents-after-researching-all-the-children-of-the-grandparents-we-have-identified-one-woman-who-was-never-married

Interesting question. Im not sure the church tries to really do all the "splitting of hairs" on all the different scenarios.

and as we all know - the temple file submission process - never once asks for proof.

but "policy" and what the system allows are obviously allowed to be different - and not necessarily forced to be the same set of rules.

I would say their should be a "preponderance" of proof - but thats just my 2 cents.

but everyone has a slightly different thought for what that means

I dont think we should be doing temple work on "guesses"

especially since we know sooner or later - all facts will be revealed for what is needed for temple work.

also a child should not normally be sealed to a biological parent when the biological parent had no relationship with the child and did not have a relationship with the other parent.

I totally understand your desire to "Seal" your Mother to her Mother.

    .

But, as 'Jessie' has indicated, if the "Father" in not known (and, NOT "Recorded", anywhere); then, that will not be possible, you cannot just "Seal" a Child to just one Parent (in your Mother's case her Mother alone).

    .

    Do not despair.

    .

"Seal" your Mother to her Grandparents.

    .

That way, your Mother is still linked/connected to her Family.

    .

And, as 'Jessie' has indicated, there are a number of "Knowledge Articles" regarding the "Ordinances" of, both, "Sealing" of 'Couples' and/or 'Children' in relation to your situation.

    .

Here are links to some of the relevant "Knowledge Articles":

Thank you! If you could review the answers in the other post and see if this adds additional detail, feel free to add it there too. The patron likely won't see it here.

If the other thread is still active, will you please share a link? I have tried a couple URLs and a search, all of which result in either no results or an error message. Perhaps it was deleted?
