Looking for my Biological Father...
I am from California. I have been searching for my biological father for the past 20 years with no luck. He is not a member (not that I know of) I don't know if anyone can help but taking a chance.
I have tried multiple websites that require some sort of payment to get background checks. I always feel like I am close to finding him but the addresses that I find are outdated. He does not have a Facebook page, not that I know of. I did find his ex wife but I don't think she was too happy to hear from me and did not want to provide me with any information about his whereabouts.
Does anyone know what else I can do? I don't have the money to hire a private investigator. Maybe there is another website I can try?

I am curious how you learned your father's identity. Did you learn this from family? DNA research? Or some other avenue?
I have sent you a private message. I can do a quick search and see if I can find him in a database that I have access to. Perhaps others will have some suggestions for you.

It's a longshot shot, but have you tried familytreenow.com? It is not associated with the Church, but I have been able to connect with members of my family. As you can continue your search, remember that if you find him things may not turn out the way you would like.

This is one of my favorite sites for searching for information on people. If you click carefully, the information is free. Like Steve says though, this site has nothing to do with the FamilySearch or FamilySearch Tree.

I completely relate to your question. I am a product of a one night stand. I'm 53 and I found my birth father through DNA match and located him only 2 years ago (BTW, I"m from CA too). I have had success with www.peoplelooker.com and it was free for a couple of searches and then a minimal fee of $20(?) for an annual subscription? Peoplelooker.com also shows information on associated relatives and neighbors for cross referencing. Good luck!

So good to know I am not alone....I also know it must have been very hard to find him. I took a DNA test about 2 months ago and it gives second cousins and I have tried to reach out but have not gotten any responses. I also tried various websites to locate him and have found his ex wife but she didn't want to help me, so I am on my own again. I will definitely try the website you shared.

You mention that you have completed a DNA test. Do your results confirm the expected surname of your father?

I took it with Ancestry with one of their kits. I don't think it tells me about my surname, at least I have not figured that out yet. Do you know if I can check that and how?

If you go to ancestry and click on the toolbar "DNA" and then "DNA Matches" you will see the listing of your matches thus so far. Click on "Search" and you have three search engine options that are: (1) First name, last name or surname (2) Surname in matches' trees (3) birth location in matches' trees. Please note that this is only available for those test kits that have been submitted and authorized for public display; with and without linked trees (naturally you can not see living individuals).

I did that but seems like most of the people there have my last name as well. They are all 4th-6th cousins. I have reached out but have not heard from any of them.

Do they have trees listed? Can you start creating a tree made up of bits and pieces of their trees? If you can find a person in common in any of the trees, this will let you see how these people fit together. You can build a tree in your own database using information that you can find in Ancestry or FamilySearch trees. If you can start forming connections between your matches, you may be able to discern which line you come through.

Yes, some of them have their trees for others to see and some have to set to 'Private'. I have my tree on Family Search and I went ahead and transferred it to Ancestry and set mine for others to see. It tells you if you have any ancestors in common. Don't mean to sound negative but... I have not found anything yet.

Don't give up! When you search your Ancestry matches, do a search for the surname and check "include similar surnames"
