Is anyone familiar with the William Tanner Family that lived in Voluntown/Griswold CT around 1875-18
There are not a lot of records available for this area/timeframe. I know he was born around 1857 in CT and married Nellie Etta Fish around 1877. They had 2 kids and then they were divorced in 1879: for desertion and adultery. That is the last known info I have on Wiliam. Thank you.

Is he the William J Tanner b. about 1857 or 1858 in RI who is living in Voluntown as a single person in 1880 and married in 1900?

I do not think so, as supposedly the William Tanner I am looking for was born in CT (however, that info could be wrong). I will look further into the record you mentioned though!Thank you. Also, interestingly enough, Voluntown is appearing in both New London County and Windham County in 1880! I had not noticed that before.

According to Wikipedia Voluntown was transferred from Windham County to New London County in 1881 - so there could have been issues shortly before the official transfer over what county it was in (you know - some infighting between the counties.)

Do you have the divorce papers? They could give more details about William and his family. Have you looked for a marriage document?

I only have the reference to their divorce based on a book that was published. The Voluntown, CT marriages are only available at the FHL in SLC or probably also at the Town Hall in Voluntown. I think writing to the Town Hall is my next step!
