Feedback on New Person Page
1. Florence Bethel, LTDF-15M. Go to her Sources and click on the first source (if sorted chronologically), the 1900 census. This one year old child, named Flossie in the census, does not show up in the list of children – even when you click on “OPEN ALL”.
She shows just fine in the Previous version when you view the source.
2. Elizabeth A. Hughes, GJ7F-BZ2. Tried to remove two children with no father (duplicate relationship). Looked like I would remove from mother completely when using the New Person Page. Are there new instructions? Tried to go into Beta to look, but it would not let me sign in. Patron has since removed the duplicate relationships using the old person page. (I'll look for another example and see if I can describe it better)
3. For Living Persons – Could the Living Person and Read Only drop downs be moved from going all across the page to the top right across from the name and below the “User Previous Version”. This would enable more information to be shown on the screen. The area currently takes up a lot of screen space.
4. I like how the names of the people in the Family Members section seem to pop out more in the previous version than the new version. Maybe it’s because they are a different color than the dates and ID numbers.
5. The separation between the parents and children is not as clear as it was in the previous version. It is also difficult to pick out the marriage information. I liked it better in the middle like it was in the previous version.
6. I liked the darker icons in the previous version under the Tools section. More contrast on the page – same thing with the icons in the Search Records section. They are so small now – before it was easier to pick out what I needed.

- The person doesn't display in the family list, because their information is displayed at the top. For non-census records, this format seems more intuitive, but with lists of people... The record search team is reevaluating this.
- I'd love more detail on this. It should be very similar to the old page. Please let us know if something is off.
- Good ideas. Lots to juggle with banners.
- Having the marriage info between the parents limits what information can be shown. For instance, we've had requests to show the reason statement for the marriage fact. Or show multiple facts. Having the marriage after the couple leaves room for these enhancements.
- To new users, big, bold, and colorful says it's the most important thing. We've had to tone down the importance of some of the icons to help keep the right focus. FYI, the research help icons will be updated to stand out a little better.

FYI, Beta is down for the annual data refresh from production. Should be done in a few weeks.

5 - Too much information on the Details screen is distracting. I like it better when I can click on the Marriage and get to the additional information rather than displaying it on the Details screen. "Reason statement for the marriage fact" is not something I would expect to show on the Details screen.

How can you delete "the old person page"? This will make it virtually impossible for the elderly to learn the new system. Thanks for creating new problems!

5 - What I think most people would like would have the reason statement on the marriage info there on the detail page but able to hide or show it just like the reason statements on everything else. It would also be good to be able to hide/show it on the couple relationship page. Right now you can only see it if you go all the way to the editing box for the marriage information.

Reality check, I'm elderly as you define it- and I had chats with others, don't seem to be a problem for most of us.

What happened to the "Life Sketch" input? I had done several of these Life Sketches because people kept making changes and confusing two similarly names relatives. This seemed to help and now this input seems to have disappeared.

The Life Sketch has been moved to the bottom of the Details Page. It is now called "Brief Life History"

I would suggest that before you prevent access to the older page, you preserve these Life Sketches somewhere. I know, in my case, they preserve stories about how people got a nickname that appears in the Census record. It can be somewhat confusing, if you don't know the story of why these two people with different names are in the different censuses are really the same person.

@Joylor, as the mod pointed out, those Life Sketches are all still there. They default to the bottom of the Details page now, and the label is somewhat different. There is also a message pointing out the correct use of the field and the existence of the new Alert Note feature, where warnings and cautions should go.
If you prefer, you can move the biography to the top of the page using "My Layout Settings", under Tools in the right-hand column. You can also use the biography on the About page, in place of the computer-generated text.

I've came across too many LONG lengths of biography. They need to move to "Memories"
Brief meant short.
Copy of details from Findagrave.com does not belong in this section, either. Too redundant.

@Joylor beside the life sketch moving to the bottom and being renamed a "Brief Life History". Some of the notes that were put into life sketch have been migrated to notes. If you feel like this note is important for warning users of a unique surcomestance about the individual, mark it as an "Alert Note" and a warning banner will appear at the top of the person page with a link to the note.

I was delighted to read this in one of your responses in this thread. The current layout for census records is plain awful. As with other websites (and how it was previously in FamilySearch) the Head of household should always appear at the top and the subject individual highlighted (bold font).
My head spins every time I look at a FamilySearch census record in its current form, so please try to follow this through with the record search team, as reverting to the former layout would be of tremendous help.
Like this, please:
Not as displayed at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:W8CK-8N2?from=lynx1UIV8&treeref=GJ6B-66P
(True, not exactly comparing like with like, but the old results page took on similar format to that shown in the screenshot.)

I would wholeheartedly agree with Paul and all the others who have brought this up that the indexed census summary list should maintain the same order as the actual census record. Census records can be confusing enough to read without shuffling them.
