On the 21st [was born to] Michael Dammann, cottager (and day laborer) [Häusling means both, according to Ernest Thode] in Nottensdorf, and his wife, Alheit born Höft, a daughter, [who was] baptized on the 27th [and] named Gesche.
The month and year are not included in the snippet.
You are correct and the index is wrong; the child is a girl, as indicated by the word "Tochter" (daughter).
