Since FS protects the info of living persons you will need to enter someone who is deceased in order to connect into the shared Family Tree. If that doesn't work for you, contact me at tnash4178@gmail.com and I'll see if I can help.

Hints will show up on living people. Sometimes it takes seconds, sometimes it takes a couple of days. However, FamilySearch does not have all that many public records for living people due to all the privacy issues involved. The most likely records to show up for you all is the 1940 census if any of you were born before then. But there are more recent record than that. To get an idea of what there is, go to the main Search page for records and try a few searches.
Here is an example for records from for people born in Colorado between 1960 and 2000:
There are only 495 results. Not because they don't exist, but because privacy laws may not allow them to published, because they have not been filmed, or because they have not been indexed.
The best hints and search results for people born after the 1940 census tend to be obituaries.
Also, keep in mind that hints are dependent on the amount of information you have entered. Be sure to include full birth information, full names, and any alternate names, including married names.

Some areas do not have many records online, though the records were kept of course. It's possible you will need to get any records that your family has or order copies of documents from a government entity before you can get back further.
If you give us more specific information, we will be able to give more specific help for what you need.

You won't get many, if any, links with living individuals due to privacy issues.
