I have found many church records for Bukovina pre-WW1.

Are there any civil records pre-WW1?

I know that this area is now in Romania. So, for pre-WW1 records should I be searching Austrian records or Romanian records?

    Hello @BusterC,

According to the following link, civil registration in Bukovina did not begin until the year 1919: https://romaniangenealogy.com/research/romanian-census/

See the section entitled "Romanian Civil Registration" where it is stated: "In Bukovina, Bessarabia and Dobruja civil registration was not introduced until 1919."

So it appears prior to WWI there are only church records available for this region.
