Francisca or -us? and what is the abbreviation
1783 Death entry - Catholic parish of Königstein im Taunus,
page 849 (left page death entries), right column, 2nd entry from top
- Is the child's name Francisca or Franciscus? The index states Franziskus, but it also has other errors in it.
- Also, what is the abbreviation after the mother's name? (see also: left column last two entries, right column first entry)

Regarding the abbreviation:
The backwards "c" represents the syllable "con" making the abbreviation: "conjugl" which makes the word some form of "conjugalis" or "conjugialis" which indicates marriage or married or spouses.

You're welcome, @Gina Palmer. I can't determine if the child's name is Francisca or Franciscus and the phrase at the end "leg. fil. infans" provides no case endings which would help identify if the child was female or male. However, if you look at the male child names "Carolus" and "Petrus" in the left-hand column on the same page, the "us" is distinct and takes up some space whereas with your record there is not that much space left after the "Francisc_" — so I am leaning towards this name being "Francisca". What do you think?

@Robert Seal_1 I agree. Unfortunately, there is no baptism entry for this child or the sibling further down on the page.
I appreciate you taking a look at this. Sometimes, it helps to have a second set of eyes or someone to talk about it with.

On the left page we have a Clara Francisca Keutner - with the Clara proving that the second name is Francisca, despite the unusual ending. Based on this I would bet on Francisca. Looks almost like the "c" has been omitted ("Francisa").
Second thought:
Francisci Wendelini … et Mariae … leg. fil. infans.
So Franciscus would be the father's name - no child's name given?

The thought of the omitted 'c' also crossed my mind.
As for the entry for Clara - she only has the one given name, separated by a coma from her father's name. Francisci is her father (genitive form of Franciscus) - so daughter of Franciscus Keutner and Margaretha.

I just realised this myself - so we have a father Franciscus and a child likley dying during or shortly after birth - no name given, no sex noted … and no baptismal entry.

In the you referenced example, Clara's father's name is Franciscus.
In the entry in question, the father's name is Wendelinus and the child's name is Francisc_ (The sibling Ursula, who died on Oct 19, also was not found in the baptism entries.
