I'm looking for Career Soldier records and could use some help
I have been searching for any information on my Great grandfather Giovanni Carmine Saviano. I have his birth record stating he is from Pietramelara, Italy born 1892. We know that he was a soldier (in Rhodes, Greece) in 1922/1923 when my grandmother was conceived. My Grandmother didn't know him but knew his name and that he was possibly from Avellino (maybe he moved there later in life? He WAS 30 by that time). I can't find military records for him on Antenati even though I am able to find them for his brother. A lady I shared my search concerns with mentioned that it was odd for him to be a soldier at 30. Possibly he could have either been unmarried or a career soldier. I read that career soldiers records were kept in different locations? Does anyone know anything about this?

If it helps, his father is Francesco Saviano, mother is Giuseppa Squillacioti. According to his brothers obituary, Giovanni was still alive somewhere in Italy in 1961.

Not all military records are available online. To request them you need to write to the state archives of the province where he lived.

@ScottSeegmiller and @Cousin Vinny I'm sorry, I'm new to this chat page and I didn't notice any notifications that there were any replies here, thank you! His Person ID is GLDD-W22. Just last week I spoke with someone who helped me possibly locate his name on the matricolari list for pietramelara that he should have been on. Instead of his last name being Saviano, there is a Savoni with the correct first name, and correct birthdate (month day and year). I'm hoping this is him! I emailed someone in Italy (fingers crossed it's the right email!) and maybe I can get somewhere :) I hear it can take quite a while for a response so in the meantime I will continue searching other places for signs of him.
