One of the person's I sent a welcome message to sent me the following question concerning his Lithuanian ancestors.

I am looking for the origin of my grandparents and Byzantines in Lithuania. I only found it on the ship's arrival list on 5/20/1927.They lived in Brazil without even knowing their original names. In searching the Lithuanian archives I found the list of passport numbers for now. It is a challenging and difficult quest.

I found records of other families that I wanted to list to help but the site did not allow it, it only allows me to attach sources to my family members. The people I am looking for are Kostas Lapkauskas 1970, Olga Stelmak 1975, Serafina Lapkauskas 03-14-1917 or 1918. Irmaos Tomas, Jonas, Nadezda, Jorgi jus, Olga, Ostafejan, Vladimiras, Vasilijas.

 Cap polonio 5 20 1927

It seems to me that mother Olga lived in Siauliai, but most of the records and residence was in raseinia

The Serafina grandmother said that there was a person who died on board and went to the sea. We thought it was his sister Nadezda, but recently we found out that Nadezda passed away a few years after arriving in Brazil, and that ship's list includes the person who died on board.

Thank You

Do you know what religion your ancestors may have belonged to?

If they are Catholic, Catholic records are available through the Lithuanian site, Epaveldas. Records for Šiauliai are available here. If the link doesn't work, just type in Šiaulėnų RKB. Here's a "How to" Guide that teaches you how to use the website.

There are also records available on FamilySearch for various religions:

    Here are records for Raseiniai

    Here are records for Šiauliai

    Thanks for notifying me.

They were Catholic here in Brazil, I don't know if they were exactly Catholic in Lithuania.

Did you search through the church books for those locations page by page? If you have and didn't find your ancestors there, you may need to do some further research in Brazil to see if you can get some more clues about the town they were from. Or it's possible they belonged to a different religion.

I watched many microfilms for days. Very difficult to understand the letters, I found nothing with the surname Lapkauskas, nor Stelmako, or the variations lapkauskiene lapkauskiete
