1. I logged in to CET and viewed the Wrexham tree group then entered the England, Yorkshire CET. In this CET I viewed details on Jane Liquors GRBQ-NJ6, added a memory and tags to her and her husband Thomas Cook.
2. I opened a new tab in Edge then typed FamilySearch.org into the address bar. I went to the Catalog and did a film number search and viewed the record.
3. On the second tab I switched from the Catalog to Family Tree by clicking on the button in the top menu bar, then Find, then Find by ID. The search for a person in Family Tree with ID# MY6B-KY7 returned no results although she is in there. https://www.familysearch.org/search/tree/id?from=MY6B-KY7 "No Results Found" I expected to search Family Tree and find this person which I viewed the previous night.
4. I opened a different browser (Chrome) then went to FamilySearch, logged in, navigated to Family Tree and did a search (Find by ID) for MY6B-KY7 which took me to Hannah Gething as expected.

It appears that while working in CET in one tab, if I open a new tab and try to use Family Tree that the search stays with the CET rather than switching to Family Tree even though I clicked the Family Tree link. I expect the Family Tree link to take me completely into Family Tree, not show me I'm there but still keep connected to the data in CET. I have some screen shots if they may help duplicate the experience.

I logged out of all FamilySearch related tabs in Edge, opened a new tab, closed the FamilySearch tabs. In the new tab I put the FamilySearch URL into the browser address bar and logged into FamilySearch. Then I navigate to Family Tree and did a Find by ID search for MY6B-KY7 and was taken to the correct and complete entry for Hannah Gething as expected.

It appears that the link to FamilyTree from a CET is not making a clean and complete transition to Family Tree. I expect that link to complete the switch to Family Tree without the need to log out and back into FamilySearch or close tabs.

Response

This is a known condition and generally does not indicate a problem in representing the data in the Gedcom accurately. Additionally the number of persons will almost always be larger in the CET. Here's why.
Some genealogical software packages impose lower data requirements in their database than FamilySearch requires in it's database. For example, You may be able to create a parent child relationship in your desktop database with only one parent. On FamilySearch, the database requires there to be two parents and the system will create an "Unknown" parent person ID when one is missing. Similarly, You might create a sibling relationship on your desktop without having any parent-child relationships in the family. On FamilySearch parents are required and the system may create two "Unknown" parent person IDs when that data is missing.

Question:

How large are your largest genealogical notes on any single tree person in your databases/Gedcoms? We need to get a feel for how large of notes we need to support. There will always be edge cases where someone wants to put in the text of entire books about their person, and supporting notes of infinite size would be a unacceptable.

BACKGROUND

Given the amazing diversity of data that can be found in Gedcom's coming from many different genealogical software packages & the data requirements FS imposes (like having a location on a residence event). it is probable that in a large Gedcom there will be instances where our system just doesn't know what to do with the data. We will be teaching it what to do as best we can, but import errors will always be possible. We log these and let you know where the imported tree diverges from the data in your Gedcom. (You can find the link to Imported Tree Differences on the Tree Details page in the top of the lower right "Controls" box)

FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS

We will be making the following improvement to the list of imported errors:

• Side Panel: We will be converting this display to a persistent side panel that slides in from the right and remains in place until dismissed rather than a popup that covers the middle of the screen.
• We will be making the names/IDs clickable to take you directly to the tree person where the data needs to be corrected.
• We will be allowing users to make each error as resolved and adding a filter so you can track which ones still need to be looked at.

Feedback needed: Once all the errors have been resolved, should the user be able to dismiss this error panel and hide the link the "Imported Tree Differences"? IOW: Is there any need to keep this display of resolved errors around once you have fixed them all?

In recent testing, several serious problems were discovered that will require deleting and reuploading a Gedcom file to resolve. 

What Were The Problems?

1. A category of user notes (Level 1 Notes) included in the Gedcom files were not being imported.
2. Notes using custom templates in the originating product were formatted poorly. 
3. When a vital event contained multiple sources, only one of the sources was being properly tagged to the event.  

Engineers have resolved and deployed fixes for the issues. There is no way to go back and retroactively apply the fixes to existing trees created prior to the code enhancements. For affected notes to be properly included in the trees, all previous trees will need to be deleted and re-uploaded. We sincerely hope that since this was identified early after uploading trees during this early access phase of use that no one will experience lost work. 

Request:

Please consider deleting any tree created prior to this last Wednesday (May 15) and re-uploading your Gedcom to re-create your tree. 
Step 1: Log into FamilySearch 

Step 2: Go to the Tree Details Page of a tree that you are the owner of

Step 3: Click the “DELETE CET” link in the bottom of the right side “Controls” pane.

To recreate your tree:

Step 1: Go to  https://www.familysearch.org/groups/researcher

Step 2: Click “UPLOAD GEDCOM” in the top center

Step 3: Choose the Gedcom file from your computer, give it a name and an optional description, Check the legal boxes and Click “Upload”

• There is now a new option on the Person Page for CET Users. On the right side of the page under the "Search Records" panel, you will notice a new section labeled "Search Trees". A new option appears titled "FamilySearch Trees".
• Clicking this new option of FamilySearch Trees will initiate a search based on the tree person whose Person Page you are currently viewing. By default, a list of search results will appear from the Shared Family Tree and other CETs.
• You may then select a search result to review on the right side panel and you now have the option to Compare and Copy the information between trees.
• The new TreeLinker tool will allow you to align a family group across two trees, compare all the attached sources on each person and copy conclusions, data and even entire people from one tree to the other.
• Please let us know your thoughts and experiences with this new feature. Other Tree to Tree interactions coming soon. Thanks you for all your help in improving the experience.

Update 06/04/2025 - Added features/enhancements

• Done button for clearing Imported Tree Differences messages - If you have reviewed the errors/differences and wish the message to be removed there is now a "Done Reviewing" button available to click. This will remove the banner and errors from the CET permanently.
• Improved places standardization - Adjustments were made to what it chosen for a standardized place when importing from the GEDCOM into a CET. Should be more accurate now…
• Other improvements for working with other various issues specific to a variety of GEDCOM versions from different software packages.

Update: 04/28/2025 - Added Feature

• Possible Duplicates within your CET - If you or a member of your CET add a duplicate person within your CET we will now display this on the person page to let you know you may have data you need to review. This only checks within the current CET you are working in. It does not look for matches in other CETs or the Family Tree.

Update: 11/14/2024 - Added features

• Descendancy Pedigree View - Now available for use in CETs (also in Family Tree & Family Group Trees) as an Opt-In experience. Please Opt-In and let us know how its doing.
• View Imported Tree Differences Slide Out Panel - This has been out for a bit now. There is still enhancements coming for this feature. The slide out panel for Tree Differences from the Import process is available from the Tree Details View, Landscape Pedigree view, Portrait Pedigree view & the Person Page view. NOTE: This option only appears if we found differences from the GEDCOM import, otherwise not visible as an option.

• Following feature is now available for CET. You may now follow a person in your tree, add labels and see the list of just those you are following in the given tree you currently in. You can also still review the entire list you are following across all trees. Let us know any feedback ….

Currently Supported Features: List of features are currently enabled and supported. For these, we would love your feedback and any issues that arise while using them.

• Ability to create a CET using our GEDCOM Import process. This will create the persons and relationships for those in the GEDCOM as well as adding their details including sources, source tagging and notes. Once your tree has been imported you can then make any changes to the data imported.
• Tree Change Log. You can now see changes specific to your CET. This is found in Tree Details and you will see the "Latest Changes". You can choose "Show All" to see the full list of changes and there are some initial filtering options available. (Released 25 June 2024)
• Updated Portrait Pedigree. The updated Portrait Pedigree allows for new ways to a navigate and add to your CET (Released 18 June 2024)
• Tree Details. You will have the ability in Tree Details to do the following as well as other actions in the future (see Features Coming Soon section):
  • Invite other to help collaborate on your CET. You can send them a link to join you in your tree. Note: They can change anything in the tree so be mindful of this as you choose whom to invite.
  • See Members of your Tree. On the Members tab you can see who has accepted invites into your tree and any outstanding invites. You can also do the following on this tab:
    • Remove collaborators from your tree. As the owner of the tree you can remove access for those who you have invited.
    • Add a co-owner to your CET. You can choose to assign another collaborator as a co-owner in your tree. They will then have the ability to invite others. You as the owner cannot be removed by other co-owners. You may also change the co-owner back to a regular collaborator if you so choose.
  • Choose a Starting Person. You can specify the starting person who will appear by default in the tree views when going into your CET. This can be changed at any time from the Tree Details settings page.
  • See Imported Tree Differences. This allows you to see any items the GEDCOM Import was unable to bring in or handle. This items will be enhanced in the future and only provides rudimentary information currently. Watch for changes here in our Features Coming Soon section.
  • Private or Public Tree Setting. Under Privacy Setting in the Tree Details you can choose to make your tree public visible when your deceased individuals will be visible in searches or by links or make your tree private to just you and your collaborators. Note, even if you tree is public, only those who you invite can make edits still.
• Landscape and Sibling (Portrait) Pedigree Views. We currently support these two views and more coming soon…
• Memories Support. You can add Memories to your CET and tag them. We are still working on some tagging nuisances so what for updates here….
• Person List. You can find the persons imported from your GEDCOM as well as any new persons you add using our Person List feature.
• Recents List Support. Persons you navigate to or view in your CET will appear in your Recents list so you can quickly go back to them.
• Fan Chart Pedigree View
• Hinting/Attach Records. Note: Please be aware that because CET are completely separate tree collections from the Family Tree collection of tree data attachments in one tree are unrelated to attachments in any other tree. IOW: The persona of Howard Allor in the U.S. 1950 Census may be attached to the PID for Howard Allor in my CET -and- to the PID for Howard Allor in the Family Tree, and these attachments have no bearing on each other.
• Research Helps. Still working to ensure these work well with CET.
• Find/Search for a person
• Ancestry Integration in CET. There is a small gotcha. You can only link the person in Ancestry to one PID on FamilySearch & Ancestry has no concept of a CET. What that means is that, if you have linked them to someone in Family Tree, you may need to unlink the Ancestry person from a Family Tree person and relink them to the correct person in your CET. This shouldn't be a problem for those of you who are doing your genealogical research in your CET.
• Descendancy Pedigree View
• Review Attachments for Sources. This will display when viewing sources if a possible attachment for another person on the historical record exists but it is not yet working with CET.

Features Coming Soon: List of features in active development and scheduled to be released in the near future. Please do not log issues against these features if you encounter them as they are still in development.

• Possible Duplicates/Merging. This is not yet supported and we have tried to disable these features in Research Trees.
• Overview. The overview feature is still being developed for the CET.

Not Yet Supported: List of features that either are farther out in our development phase or may not be supported in CET.

• Tree 2 Tree Matching. User can see where other persons in the Family Tree match their persons in their CET.
• Copy Tree 2 Tree. Allow a user to copy from the Family Tree to their CET or visa versa.
• GEDCOM 7 Support.
• Mark Deceased Person as Private. Ability to mark a specific deceased person in your CET as Private even if your CET is Public. This will allow this person to be properly researched and sourced before allowing others to view. NOTE: Collaborators who are invited to your tree can still see the private person.
• View my Relationship. CET may not contain someone you are related to and we have disabled this feature. This may appear in the future at some point but will not operate as it does today in the Family Tree.

Answer: View Relationship does not currently work in a CET. There is no mechanism currently in place to designate the "You" person from which to calculate the relationship. In some cases the owner or invited contributors may not even be in the specific tree. There is a desire to provide all the same features that are currently available in Family Tree and we will be exploring if, how and when to build this feature in the future.

Answer: The Gedcom upload code used in this product has been updated regularly over the years to support new versions as they become commonly used. We fully intend to support Gedcom 7 at a future date since the ability to bring in richer media and content will provide huge value. We are still focusing on essential features (like search and record hinting) and a decision was made to not add support for Gedcom 7 to the existing code until later in the development process.
