Use of Internet spiders

I know that CET programming is being developed at this time. Are there plans down the road to allow Internet spiders to index the data and make available our research to search engines?

Is there a way to add a GED branch to a CET tree?

I appreciate this is all in the VERY early gestation, but what was offered in the way of the how it might work by @Robert Kehrer got me thinking….

'Users will be alerted when an individual in their tree has a high confidence match vs an individual in another tree.'

Can I take this to mean 'another tree' includes not only CETs but also FamilyTree? Hmm…. what about Genealogies? I admit I tend to forget that Genealogies are a resource to be considered.

'If so, they will be able to create a new "empty" person in their tree and copy all of the person data, notes, source and memories from the matched tree person onto the new person in their tree.'

Sounds like a 'two-step' process. My initial thought is that it should be a 'grab it all' and then sort it out vs a 'pick and choose' after the PID is created in my CET. Either way still gets the job done, depends on how one does these sorts of things as to which approach would be to ones liking…

Long term, these notes may help alert users when meaningful new data is added to one person. ex. If I conclude that "Mike" in treeA is the same as "Michael" in treeB and later someone adds new marriage info and a source to Michael in treeB, I may be alerted and can align and copy that data into my tree….'

If treeA is my CET, I'd be notified of changes to Michael in treeB. The manager of treeB would be aware thru a 'note' that I've established this 'connection'. It would be useful if the manager of treeB could easily navigate to Mike in my CET thru a link of some kind included in the 'note' they've received.

If Tree2Tree was implemented between FamilyTree and CETs, seems like I should be able establish this 'watch' feature with a FamilyTree PID [this would be above and beyond the 'Follow' function].

Either way, these notifications need to be made not only when viewing 'Mike' in my CET, but also in an additional 'global' sense which would show all notifications for any/all PIDs in a particular CET.

Looking forward to watching the CETs evolve. Thanks for making this happen

Missing features on the CET

Looping into CETs from Recents

When I open the FamilySearch Tree to do some work, I usually go to the Recents to see where I left off working. I went to the list and clicked on the person I was working on. That took me to the person who had a warning notice that a GEDCOM file had errors. I began to think through the issue of someone adding a current GEDCOM to the FamilySearch Family Tree and clicked on the huge list of errors. I finally realized after returning to the FamilySearch Family Tree three or four times that I was going directly from the Recents to the CETs. I had gone to the person I was working on to make sure all the information was in the CETs. However, there was nothing telling me I had jumped to the CET unless I noticed the link in the left hand corner. In addition, the huge list of GEDCOM errors is about the most disincentive to use the CET that I can imagine. The "Errors" seem to be differences between the GEDCOM file and the FamilySearch Family Tree. So, do I spend hours and hours making sure the data is the same between my Ancestry.com GEDCOM file and the FamilySearch Family Tree or do I give up and ignore the CET for a while? I had to go through the loop about three or four times before I even realized what was happening. One option is to ignore the GEDCOM error list until and deal with the differences when there is a way to sync between the two trees. Just some observations. Apparently, the only way I can get to my recent person without jumping to the CET is by putting his ID number into the FIND option.

I am using a Dell laptop running Windows 11, and I've had difficulty moving from field to field within CET, specifically when entering birth and (maybe) death dates. Pressing tab does not move to the next field (tab does work when entering the person's first and last names). I'm not sure if this is because the field is expecting me to press enter (to confirm the standardized date or location), or if this is bug.

Uploaded GEDCOM that created three of the same ancestor.

I haven't worked in my genealogy software for years. Instead, I have been adding photos and data to the FS public tree while looking for online software to put my 20-something years of research to give to other family members instead of GEDCOMs eventually. I hope the new CET program is the answer.

The instructions don't explain how to manually enter ancestor names one at a time when starting a new tree file in my CET account. So, I need a GEDCOM.

Here are my questions.

Is it acceptable to create or update a small family file, convert it to a GEDCOM, upload it, and build it up in the test CET account? Must the file have a certain size or a certain amount of names and data?

Can I download some of my family research from the FS site to a GEDCOM and upload it to my CET account? Or select specific FS data and transfer it to my CET account?

If I have to, I can open old genealogy files, update them, and create GEDCOMs, but the files will not contain as much data as I have added to my FS research.

I am open to other ideas. Has anyone else had this issue? FYI, my software is an open-source program called GRAMPS, which can create a GEDCOM.
