Why Does FS Suggest Period Incorrect Locations?
A lot of my research is in the West Midlands, which was established in 1974. When adding sources, and the associated place, the top suggestions on the drop down are West Midland addresses. Why is this? Alphabetically Walsall, Staffordshire precedes Walsall, West Midlands. Birmingham, Warwickshire precedes Birmingham, West Midlands. Also, a date entry precedes the place entry. Why does the place dropdown suggest period incorrect location names? A GREAT percentage of the records are going to be pre 1974, the West Midlands suggestions should never be at the top of the dropdown. I am constantly fixing period incorrect place names.
A visit to the "Get Involved " tab, "verify places" finds the same condition exists. Edward Prior (GXM6-3ZB) has 1877 and 1928 sources for a "Wigan" location. The top choice on the list of suggested places is Wigan, Greater Manchester, England, UK, town, 1974-present.
Feeding the AI/search engine these period incorrect locations is not helpful. Garbage in = garbage out on future searches.
Hoping this can be passed on to the FS IT engineers for improvement.

Although I do not know, I suspect this issue is already on the engineers' to-do list. I also suspect that it will take quite a bit of programming to make the system give priority to locations consistent with the date entered.
If you want something to be noticed by the engineers, your best chance of success is to post to Suggest an Idea in Community
