Seeking Information on Albanese & Barreca Families from Sicily

Hello,

I’m researching my Italian heritage and trying to connect with my roots in Resuttano, Caltanissetta, and Bompietro, Palermo, Sicily. My 2nd great-grandparents, Salvatore Albanese (GJKW-1C5) (1887–1956) and Francesca Barreca (1890–1973) (GJK4-CJ9) , were from these towns, and I’d love to learn more about their ancestry and family history.

Through DNA testing, I discovered that my biological grandfather, who remains a mystery, was most likely born in Chicago, Illinois, between 1950–1955 and was given up for adoption. My great-grandmother, Mary Albanese (GLVC-2VJ) , may have been his birth mother, and there’s a strong connection to a Greek man named Thomas Kaskas (GG7C-Q57) (short for Kaskabouris).

Here are links to my family trees for more context:

Edit =

  • Maria Albanese's Tree: Family Tree
  • Maria Albanese's Profile: Maria Albanese’s Profile
  • I can share my Ancestry tree if anyone is interested and has an Ancestry account.

If you have any insights, advice on accessing records from Resuttano or Bompietro, or share family connections to the Albanese or Barreca families, I’d greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you in advance!

    @Skylar836

    We can't see your FamilySearch profile since you are living. FS protects the profiles of all living persons.

    And only those with a paid subscription to Ancestry can see your mother's tree on Ancestry.com.

    @Skylar836 Mod note: Community is a public online forum. For your privacy, your post was edited to remove a name that is not part of your username. Please see the Community Code of Conduct for more details.

    I like to get information about the records available in the places I'm studying in FamilySearch's Research Wiki. You can find information about records in Palermo, Sicily here. And information about Caltanissetta is here.

    @Áine Ní Donnghaile

    I completely forgot that living profiles are private on FamilySearch—thank you for pointing that out!

    To make things easier, here are the links to Maria's part of the tree:

    • Maria Albanese's Tree: Family Tree
    • Maria Albanese's Profile: Maria Albanese’s Profile

    Hopefully, these help! Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.

    I also didn’t consider the Ancestry subscription issue. If anyone has an account and would like me to send a personal link to access my Ancestry tree, I’d be happy to do so.

    Thank you so much for your help!

    Resuttano and Bompietro have civil records beginning in 1820.

    Antenati has Resuttano records from 1820-1930:

    Antenati has Bompietro records from 1820-1861, and 1911-1947:

    FS has Bompietro civil records from 1862-1910:
