Searching for the birthplace, parents and siblings of Benjami Clannin MNZ6-VXS.
He is believed to be born in Ireland and shows up in Portsmouth, NH married to Mary Harris. He then shows up as a land owner in Newburyport, MA and a Cooper. His first wife, Mary Harris LXQN-XTP, dies in 1799 and he remarries Mrs. Deborah Sandin Sinecross MF5Z-4WN.
I'm attempting to put together an application for recognition of him as a DAR Patriot. He also served in the infantry for Newburyport, MA in July and Oct of 1775.
Any clues or help would be great. We suspect his real last name may have been McClanahan.

If he was indeed from Ireland his surname likely was Clanahan or McClanahan or any of the variations. According to John Grenham's site they are only found in County Antrim--https://www.johngrenham.com/findasurname.php?surname=Clenahan in the Ballinderry civil parish. It still is a clue despite the fact that this info is extracted from records much later than Benjamin's era.
The surname and location in Ireland leads one to believe that there's possibly a connection further back to Scotland where many with McClanahan surname are found. The next assumption is that he was quite possibly Presbyterian, part of the Ulster Scots who came to Ireland in the early 1600s. Sadly, most of the early records do not exist, especially if he was Presbyterian.
