This is an Ancestry.com link to what I think is my great grandfather's baptism on 15 Oct 1833 in county Waterford: last entry on left page. His name is John Foley and his parents are Michael Foley and Ellen Farrell. Can you please transcribe the Latin(?) words to help me verify that this is, in fact, his baptism?

    Yes, this is a baptism.
FL - stands for filius legitimas - legitimate son
PP - stands for patrini - godparents

So, Joannum (John) legitimate son of Michael Foley and Honora Farrell, godparents Daniel Hely and Francesca O'Grady

I can't speak to how or why Honora becomes Ellen. In my experience, Honora can become Nora, Haannah, Anna, but not really Ellen or Helen. It is always possible Ellen was a middle name that she went on to use later in life, but was born or baptised with a different given name.

This is wonderful. Thank you very much! I guess I still have to resolve how (or if?) "Honora" became "Ellen" but this helps.
