Hosted by the Abbotsford Family History Centre of the Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada Stake:
When family stories refer to a grandmother or great-grandfather who was aboriginal, many genealogist are asking “Where do I fit? “. Where do I find them?
When you are ready to explore, start with a hand-drawn ancestor tree with all your guesses – and then begin tracking records and documents to confirm family connections. Will there be birth, baptism, marriage and death records, census documents, family photos to confirm the family connections? What if the ancestor was Metis?
Keep track of what you discover, and where to look next when the trail seems to have vanished. Bring your list of family names and where the trail has stopped – perhaps we can help.
Presenters: Retired educators & genealogists have decades of experience in guiding people who are trying to find the trail to their ancestors. Together, they have extensive contacts and techniques for meeting the challenges and breaking down some of the brick walls.
