TREE--DESCENDANCY, Can you add a COUNT to the primary individual?

On a individual's tree, I set the screen to DESCENDANCY. The selected individual is the primary person, followed by their spouse and descendancy up to 4 generations. It would be very helpful (at the least, interesting) to show a COUNT of that individual's descendancy.

That would be interesting to have done for you. If it's not something that happens automatically (don't think it does right now) you could make that suggestion in Community under "suggestions"

It is not "up to 4 generations". I just did a descendancy view for 9 generations, to my 7th great grandfather.

@Gail Swihart Watson Could you please share how you included 9 generations?

In the Descendancy tree view, there's an option to show up to 4 generations at once:

It's certainly possible to manually expand any sets of parents beginning in that 4th generation if you want to go deeper and deeper. But to show 9 complete generations would require hundreds (or more likely thousands) of clicks to show all those descendants. Following just one line down to the 9th generation would only take 5 more clicks, if that's all you want to show, but that's quite limited.

@Alan E. Brown: Gail did ascendancy, not descendancy.

Going up a tree, backwards in time, is Ascendancy:
e.g. up "to" her 7th ggfather.

Descendancy is going down a tree, forwards in time:
e.g. if it was descendancy, she would have stated down "from" her 7th ggfather

@Nyx773 - I suspect you're right. However, in defence of people who read the text (i.e. pedants like me 😉 ) @Gail Swihart Watson said "descendancy view for 9 generations, to my 7th great grandfather" - which is, unless you have a TARDIS to create a recursive tree, a contradiction. And the OP was talking about Descendancy.

    So - confused I am. Although, as I said, I suspect you're right. 😗

So I did not go "up". I went to my 7th great grandfather's person page, then clicked view tree, which means view HIS tree. Then I changed the view from horizontal to descendancy. The initial view was just his immediate family. I had to keep opening up my line. Eventually, I got it opened up all the way to me.

I was also being pedantic because Gail stated "to" her 7th ggfather and not "from".

Seems like everyone is "speaking another language" of their own making. I like Alan E Brown's comment the best.

I appologize I couldn't write a longer explanation yesterday as I was late to join a family gathering. However you want to look at it, going up or down, I used the actual Descendancy view, so maybe that clears it up a little. What it won't do is automatically show YOU YOUR line down. You must know which child in the family group carries your line and then open that individual up. Thus, it is actually great if you are doing general research about the whole family. You can either open and close various children in the family group one at a time or you are able to open up all children in one viewing.

@Gail Swihart Watson If you go to the person at the top of the descendancy view, and then choose Show Relationship, you'll see the exact line shown for how you are related to that person. Depending on what you are doing, you might find it helpful to keep that relationship chart open in a separate browser tab or window for references as you work with your descendancy view.

Alan E. Brown that will only show you one relationship and it might not even be a biological one. Most communities in the 1700s were very small and the marriage market was usually stable, meaning the same families married into each other for multiple generations. In some of my cases, they even migrated together. I have numerous couples I descend from multiple ways. Also, that relationship chart will not pay attention when one has established non-biological parentage relationships such as guardianship or step. It will use them if it is easiest. Thus, to make the descendancy view work the way you want, you have to know in advance what your line is.
