Anyone familiar with a "Familienbuch"?

I have discovered that a book called "Familienbuch Lutzerath 1683-1854" is at the Family Search Library, but unfortunately not available to view online due to copyright restrictions.

Not sure what sort of info a Familienbuch contains. I am hundreds of miles from the library so I'd want to be fairly certain what I might find before I make a trip to see it in person.

Anyone seen a historical Familienbuch?

thank you…

    Hello @Douglas3983,

"Familien Lutzerach 1683-1854" is a family lineage book specifically for Lutzerath, Germany, covering the period 1683 to 1854. If you know with certainty that you had family living in Lutzerath during this time period, this would be a worthwhile resource to consult.

The following link will help you to understand what a "Familienbuch" is: https://www.volgagermans.org/blog/what-familienbuch

Another name for a "Familienbuch" is "Ortssippenbuch" which you can learn about here: https://www.familysearch.org/en/blog/the-ortssippenbuch-a-shortcut-in-german-family-history-research

aha! Great. My ancestors emigrated from Lutzerath, so it seems likely I would find valuable info in this familienbuch. I appreciate your clarification.

    Thank you,

    Doug

Another term that may be used is Ortsfamilienbuch (OFB). There's a website devoted to OFBs here - https://ofb.genealogy.net/

Lutzerath isn't listed among the towns represented here, but perhaps this site can be useful to you in the future as you research other towns. In addition to the online OFBs, the site also has a list of printed works. You can find the link near the top right of the page, under the word Hinweis, where it says gedruckten Ortsfamilienbücher.

Here's another link to information about Familienbücher. You'll have to use Google Translate (or similar tool) to read it in English, but it gives a good deal of information on the topic. https://www.leo-bw.de/web/guest/themenmodul/sudwestdeutsche-archivalienkunde/archivaliengattungen/register/familienregister

Great! Thank you for the additional info and links. I do have a couple other towns I'd like to check out.
