Immigration vs. Visitation

I know that Denmark has really good emigration records, and I know how to search those, but if a Dane left Denmark for the US, would there be a way to find out if he came back to Denmark to visit again?

I don't know about Denmark, but the Norwegian emigration lists include both those leaving Norway for the first time and those leaving again. Here is one such record:

This really is in the emigration records even though it shows his residence as North Dakota. It also lists his initial emigration date.

Since the two counties have a lot in common, you might poke around in the records you already know how to search and see if you can search using a person's residence, as I did here, to at least determine if they do contain instances of emigrants whose residence is already outside of Denmark.
