Hello everyone,

I am looking for a volunteer who could help me with my family research in Poland, more specifically in the Małopolska (Lesser Poland) region.

My great-great-grandfather:

  • Piotr Wanielista, born on 20 June 1869, died on 15 August 1949.
    Married to:

  • Agnieszka Zawiła, born on 12 April 1870, died in 1945.

They had at least two sons:

  • Józef Wanielista, born on 22 February 1900 in Ponice, died on 27 November 1980 in Sucha Beskidzka.
  • Franciszek Czesław Piotr Wanielista, born on 3 October 1911 in Dobra, died on 19 January 1981 in Belgium.

I am trying to find their birth, marriage and death records, as well as information about their ancestors and descendants in Poland.

If anyone is familiar with the parish or civil records of Ponice, Dobra or Sucha Beskidzka, or could look them up in the archives, I would be very grateful for your help.

Thank you very much in advance

Best regards,
(name removed)

Please try: Geneszukacz.genealodzy.pl search for Wanielista, use Polish first names if possible.

Search in malopolskie for Piotr Wanielista and Agnieszka Zawila, click on Scan, you will find birth (urodzenia) records from Dobra Parish years 1901-1923, page 115. In Geneszukacz, if you hover with your computer mouse over “I” you will get additional information, e.g. birth date in this case, 28th Sept. 1914, “Z” will tell you where this record is kept/obtained from: Archiwum Diecezjalne w Tarnowie.

Birth Record No. 42, Page 115, Dobra Parish, of Johanna (Julia in Geneszukacz, Joanna or Janina in name dictionary) Michalina Wanielista, born in Dobra, House No. 347, on 28th September 1914, christened on 30th September 1914, a Catholic, legitimate daughter of father: Petrus (Piotr in Polish) Wanielista, who is a legitimate son of Adalbertus (Wojciech) Wanielista and Marianna Sieczkowska, he is a blacksmith, born 1870, and of mother: Agnes (Agnieszka) Zawiła, a legitimate daughter of Joannes (Jan) Zawiła and Christina (Krystyna), born Piasek, farmers, she was born year 1870. Petrus (Piotr) Wanielista and Agnes (Agnieszka) Zawila were married year 1896. Godparents: Joannes (Jan) Winnicki and Marianna Kordeczka.

It looks like there is an error in Birth Record of Franciscus (Franciszek in Polish) Celaus (Czesław) Petrus (Piotr), his father should be Petrus (Piotr), son of Adalbertus (Wojciech), not as written that he is son of Adalbertus, son of Petrus Wanielista, but all the rest seems correct.

Birth Record No. 52, Dobra Parish, of Franciscus (Franciszek in Polish) Celaus (Czesław) Petrus (Piotr) Wanielista, born on 3rd October 1911, christened on 8th October 1911, it should be son of father: Petrus (Piotr) Wanielista, who is son of Adalbertus (Wojciech) Wanielista and of Marianna, born Sierczowski (Sieczkowski?), a farmer, born year 1870, and of mother: Agnes (Agnieszka), born Zawiła, a legitimate daughter of Joannes (Jan) Zawiła and of Christina (Krystyna), born Piasek, farmers, she was born year 1870. Peter (Piotr) Wanielista and Agnes (Agnieszka) Zawiła were married year 1896. Godparents: Ceslaus (Czeslaw) Wachal and Julianna Winnicka.

Please keep in mind that there were no written or printed IDs when this father reported the birth of an infant, and he recited the information to the recorder, occasionally there were errors. We are just glad to have those records.
