Translation request on descriptions next to names on 1865 Census record

Hi,

I was hoping that perhaps I could have some help on the descriptions next to the names on the top three lines of this 1865 Census. This is a continuation of the previous page, where the last two lines are for John Johanessen an Oline Olsdatter. This page has "Berte, Karoline Østensdatter, and Oluf Enersen" on the first three lines. Berte is age 3, ? datter [daughter]. I'm not sure what Karoline or Oluf are. I think Karoline's may be "tjenestepige" - maid? I'm having a hard time with the words next to Oluf - "Lagu?" and "Ln?"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Sandy

For Norwegian census and other records, it is really worthwhile to learn to use the Digitalarkivet. The collections that were transcribed by Norwegians are excellent and are more complete than the FamilySearch indexes, particularly for the census records. Also the image viewer the Norwegian archives uses has much better resolution of the images and you can zoom in much farther. (Just watch out for indexing done by AMF. Those have a lot of errors.)

Here is the census record you are looking at: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/census/person/pf01038044000602

There is a button in the upper right labeled Skannet that takes you to the actual image. Here is the transcription:

They have split column five into its two component parts, family position and occupation.

    To Translate:

Berte - their daughter - no occupation listed

Karoline - no family position - household help. Since John is a farmer, I don't think I would translate this as "maid." She could be doing any sort of household or farm work.

    Oluf - Lodger - Carpenter

Here is a comparison of the images at maximum legible zoom with FamilySearch on the top and Digitalarkivet on the bottom
