Marriage not supported by tagged indexed sources

If you order a marriage certificate from a government archive, post it as a marriage source, and then add a marriage tag, it generates a quality score error called, “This person has a marriage that is not supported by any tagged indexed sources.” That is a true statement, but it seems like a marriage certificate issued by a government agency is certainly a valid source and shouldn’t be flagged as an error. See for example Emma Allenden LXQ7-ZG8.

    No error is being reported. Just encouragement to find an indexed source if one currently exists to help in the task of connecting every indexed source to the correct Family Tree profile. If one doesn’t exist then just dismiss the flag.

    There are surely many, many legitimate (and often official) sources which are not indexed on the FamilySearch site. This is after all the way in which the commercial providers are still able to make a living. So the statement, while accurate, is not helpful. For the case given an image of the original source has even been made available for verification. Dismissing is possible but the point here is that the reference provided is verifiable by any user of this site by following the given URL to the official website of the government in question.

    @TedJohnson2 Thanks for the feedback!

    While it may be a valid source, we weigh indexed sources heavier when determining a quality score. We have also started weighing non-indexed sources from certain sites heavier.

    We will have the engineers talk about weighing images heavier and potentially changing the message for images.

    The quality score is still evolving and your feedback is important.

    Thanks again.
