Memories, People Page

I am a Family Tree Support Missionary, and yesterday I received a call from a guest who called in and asked when the Memories, People Page would return.

He spoke very highly of the People Page and told me how his daughter-in-law had used the People Page extensively in helping to write a life history about the guest’s mother. He continued by telling me that he also had found the People Page most useful.

I had not myself used the People Page, but after he told of how useful it was, I was eager to try it, but of course, as it is currently unavailable, I was not able to.

When I went to Community I found few comments requesting its retention.

I then spoke with my Team Lead and told her of my experience, and found that she also was unaware of the People Page.

I have served for 12 years and this is the first time I have heard of the People Page.

The thought struck me that there may have been no training for the service missionaries on the People Page, and little, or no, promotion to Family Tree users of this apparently wonderful feature.

I write this to explain and express my desire to have the People Page upgraded and brought back to Family Tree.

I expect that the reason that Community has so little comments about the Person Page is that very few users are even aware of the People Page. Further, I hope that, once it has been brought back, that not only will there be promotion to the general user, but training for all the service missionaries.

It sounds like a hidden gem in Family Tree.

As an aside, I thought that I recognized the guest’s name and as our conversation developed, I inquired if he was the Emeritus General Authority Seventy that I thought he was. He humbly explained that he was. I was impressed that, although he was in his eighties, he was not only quite computer literate, but he was well acquainted with Family Tree. I learned from him what the Person Page was about. I must say, he was most hopeful that the People Page would return to Family Tree, and he inspired in me the desire to use it upon its return.

I have over a thousand photos from the metal images to black and white and color I wanted to add and later tag the images that I recognize for certain. When I attempt to upload an image with two or more tagged relatives and I want to tag some more in the crowd of relatives, if I don't do it concurrently, I don't know if the image was parked some place else. I am not LDS, but I felt this would be the best place to achieve several goals. For profit genealogy outfits would like them deposited there, but I feel this Christian Church will outlive them. Some of my distant cousins may appreciate photos, images and my small memory I got and remembered from family. And some of my cousins may be members of the Church of Latter Day Saints, filling the difficult Baptismal requirements. Bless you!

I am a FamilySearch Missionary Team Helper and since the People page has been discontinued, I have been hearing how much some of the Guests have loved it and used it extensively in the past. They are very concerned that it might not be reinstated as one of our features. I am also hoping that it comes back so that I can learn to use it and appreciate it as our Guests have. I have also seen comments here in Community that tell how much users like the People feature. I do hope it does not disappear for ever.
