The town of Toplovka in the Kingdom of Hungary (currently Topoľovka in the Prešov Region of Slovakia) brings up no records in FamilySearch, which likely means that the church registers for this town are located in a nearby place. I've searched a number of nearby towns on a map of Zémplen County, but I haven't had any luck finding a register that records life events from this town. Does anyone know where they might be located?

Which religion? What time frame( before or after October of 1895?)

1889, and unsure on the religion. I think I've found that Roman Catholic records were kept in Istvánfalu (Štefanove) and the Greek Catholic ones were kept in Leszkócz (Lieskovec). FamilySearch seems to have most of its records for both places during that time period unpublished.

Roman Catholic records 1763-1931 in Leszkóc, Greek Catholic records 1855-1927 in Stefanovce. Not sure what you mean by "unpublished".

You're correct regarding Leszkoc(I guess I should have looked closer). Here's a link to the Stefanovce Greek Catholic baptisms starting in 1887:https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-DTZQ-WDC?cat=720559&i=513&lang=en

If you don't find the person you're looking for, please provide a name and other pertinent info, perhaps we can help.

I don't have specific answers but I would recommend that you try to find a Slovak genealogist or an American genealogist who specializes in Zemplen County. It might also benefit you to join CGSI (Czech-Slovak Genealogical Society International) to review their holdings. That might bring you some specialized knowledge and contacts.

On the Cisarik webpage, look for the last name among people from the phone book and from the 1715 Census to see if you can identify your relative's name among them.

I went to the village of Topolovka (near Humenne) on Google maps and it appears the church in town is a Catholic church called Kostol Nanebovzatia Panny Márie. In my part of Slovakia, the villages generally had one church for the majority religion and people traveled to nearby churches if they were of a minority religion. You may be able to guess from information on the parishes where this relative worshipped in the US or the neighborhood that they lived in, in the United States, what religion was practiced and confirming that may be helpful for further old country research.

Have you looked in Humenne? Sometimes people's records are listed in bigger towns and the smaller parishes/towns/neighborhoods are recorded as a geographic designator in that larger town church's records.

Minority religions in an area seem harder to track down, based on my limited personal experience.
