Missouri probate question
My question concerns the last record on p. 189 and top of p. 190 for James F Jenkins, deceased.
My question concerns the administrator, James L Jenkins. I have reason to believe he was in California at the time of this record. Can anyone tell me if he would have had to be present in the court for this? I have a newspaper notice for the Final Settlement that is dated Feb 20 1851. At the bottom James L Jenkins is noted as the administrator but after that it says "by Jonathan Wiseman, Agent". The record I have attached is dated May 5 1851 and makes no mention of an agent, but maybe it did not have to indicate that an agent was involved instead of the assigned administrator.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to whether James L Jenkins had to be present in court for this or could he have been out of state?
THANK YOU for any opinions

I would believe you need to try and find historical books on statutes of the times or Legal procedures for the times. These can usually be found at the State AG's or Governors office.
Missouri boasts several law libraries and historical societies dedicated to legal research and the preservation of legal history. Law libraries are found at major law schools, like Saint Louis University, University of Missouri-Columbia, and Washington University, as well as at the Missouri Supreme Court. Historical legal societies include organizations like the Law Library Association of St. Louis, which offers resources and programming for the public and the legal community.

@sc woz @Steve Schell I usually go to the website for "The Advancing Genealogist" for that type of information. Good luck!
