Hello all from across the pond;

So, here is what I am after, if possible. I have been doing Genealogy for a long time, not as a job, but you know what I am trying to say.

I have come to a dead end(I hope not) regarding the following family: Charlotte Highfield, who is married to William Allard. Charlotte was born around 1787 in Egerton, Kent, England. I believe her parents' names are John Highfield and Hannah Highfield; I do not have a maiden name for Hannah. Charlotte has died in Colden, NY, Erie County, nothing on her there (died 8 Nov. 1853)., any help would be great, .

Thanks, and have a wonderful day.

Robert Allard

    After trying the usual research organizations and web sites I was unable to find a mother or father listed for Charlotte Highfield. I would think the next step is to locate the actual Parish records for Charlotte's Birth or Christening and hope they have the parents listed. I would suggest starting on FamilySearch Wiki pages for Kent England and work my way through the lists, including the section on Parish History. I did notice on the Church Bans that neither Charlotte nor William were able to write their names and as such maybe were from a lower economic status and this could result in records not being recorded correctly if at all. The Kent online Parish Clerks web site also could be a good point to look further. A web site called Ancestors in Kent also appeared to have much information to help you locate parish and other records for the area. Sorry I was unable to find additional names for you, but hopefully some of this can assist you in your detective work.

    It would be helpful if you explain where you got what information you have.

    Film 1067210 relates to Herstmonceux, Sussex. I couldf not find an entry for Charlotte Highland in the trasncripts from that film. However, at 27.5 miles from Egerton, Kent, it seems unlikely that a person christened in Herstmonceux would have married in Egerton especially if she was born in Egerton.

    Apologies - yes - should have looked for Highfield.

    There is a christening for Charlotte Highfield to John and Hannah but not until 1840. No indication on the baptism record that this was an adult baptism.

    So the chances of this being the right person must be almost nil.
