GEDCOMs FOR CET

I started my family history with the first program the Church came out with. Since then I have used PAF-5, New FamilySearch and now FamilySearch. I feel this program will be wonderful for individuals just starting as they will be starting from scratch. For those of us who have been using the Church's programs for all our research and sources are in the current Family Tree. Not being able to download a GEDCOM from Family Tree to be used for CET Is a big problem. I have been using Ancestral Quest for a back-up but not adding any sources. Hopefully in the feature we will be able to build a CET tree using Family Tree.

    @George Ezell Legge Thank you, again, for testing early release CET and offering feedback. A couple of features that are on their way will greatly streamline this process. One would be the ability to start a CET from scratch, not a GEDCOM file. The second is called "Tree2Tree" which will allow a user to syn the information between the FamilySearch Tree, their own Family Group Tree, and their CET. One additional feature would be a direct API interface that would eliminate the need for the GEDCOM upload. For a user like you that has been mainly using FSTree these will greatly benefit from "Tree2Tree". Thank you for your feedback.

    @mynameistk it would also be very beneficial to have the option/ability to export CET trees as Gedcoms! This isn't a very high priority certainly but I'm sure many others share my desire for such a feature

    @J Purkaple,
    Thanks for the suggestion. Here's a few thoughts.
    Over the course of the year, many of the developers of leading genealogy software products will introduce integrated versions of products. These products will all have the ability to create a CET which will be connected to, and kept in sync with, the product's desktop database. All of these products have the ability to export Gedcoms.

    What about those CETs that were created via Gedcom and are un-connected to any software product? Each of these products anticipate allowing their user, who is authenticated to FamilySearch, to request a list of the user's accessible CETs. They will then let the user designate a listed tree which will then be connected to the product (the CET data can be pulled into the product) and the user can then use the product to export a Gedcom.

    We have talked about exploring a tool that could create a Gedcom file from a tree on FamilySearch, but we do not have such code today and there will soon be a method to do this, perhaps an even a better method for many users.

    Ooh! I would love for FamilySearch to be able to create a gedcom!

    @George Ezell Legge the tree2tree feature is now available on CET. Thank you for your valuable input. The features that will allow CET creation without a GEDCOM is still forthcoming.
