At the URL below is the entry in the 1634 Kyburg Parish census for the Jacob Bryner family. He was the landowner of a large estate called Brungen. I am unable to read/translate the title behind his name and could use some help. Also spelling of his wifes last name? Thank you.

Does this differ from a Landrichter (regional court judge)? One of his heirs has this title in a later census.

The Hauptmann is a military position - so it does differ from a Landrichter. On the other hand, all these positions are usually not a life-long engagement - a single person could have been Hauptmann and Landrichter, usually not overlapping, I guess. It certainly can be that two different generations from the same family could hold different positions.

On https://hls-dhs-dss.ch/de/articles/008610/2007-11-29/ I found the following explanation (excerpt translated):

At the beginning of the 16th century, the military hierarchy began to differentiate. In the emerging diversity of ranks, the "Hauptmann" became the commander of an ensign, a detachment, a troop or later a company - in other words, he was the team leader on the battlefield.
