I'm trying to find the ancestry of:

Jesse Mode Sr. (father of Jesse Mode Jr.)

Born 1748

Married 1772 to "Sarah" in Delaware British Colonial America

1776 Quaker meeting notes mention Bucks, PA

1785 Philadelphia Directory lists him with his son.

1798 possibly resided in PA

1810 he was possibly in Philadelphia

1815 in Delaware, PA.

1817 Land deed says County of Philadelphia. Mentions Sarah.

Likely died some time after 1820.

I have looked in Ancestry and FamilySearch

I know I should look in church records and land deeds, but I don't know where to do that.

Thank you!

I located several records on FamilySearch that should get you moving in your search

    https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XH22-QGY?lang=en

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/record/results?q.anyDate.from=1748&q.anyPlace=Philadelphia%2C%20Pennsylvania%2C%20United%20States&q.givenName=Jesse%20&q.surname=Mode

    Hope it can help

Not sure of your skill level in FamilySearch so will also attach this to help in learning how to use it to find your records.

I see on Ancestry.com (which may cost you to review if you don't already have an account) the following listed as the parents to Jesse Mode Sr

    Alexander Mode

    1713–1751

Birth 16 SEPTEMBER 1713 • Chester, Pennsylvania, British Colonial America

Death 20 MAY 1751 • East Fallowfield Township, Chester, Pennsylvania,, British Colonial America

    • Direct Ancestor

    Rebecca Allen

    1722–1799

Birth 8 AUGUST 1722 • East Fallowfield Township, Chester, Pennsylvania,, British Colonial America

Death 12 JULY 1799 • London Grove Township, Chester, Pennsylvania, United States

If you use this information in FamilySearch you will find additional details of his grand father and grand mother.

    https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/record/results?count=20&q.anyDate.from=1713&q.anyPlace=Philadelphia%2C%20Pennsylvania%2C%20United%20States&q.givenName=alexander&q.surname=Mode

    Does this help?

    Thank you!

I'm not finding anything on Alexander Mode on FamilySearch. Is there a certain way I should be searching? Is there another place to look?

I found Jesse Mode Sr GQH6-QW4 on FamilySearch. It lists his son Jesse Mode Sr. It appears that you have looked at his Person Page and his Sources, but if not, log into FamilySearch, Click on Family Tree and in the dropdown, click on Find. At the top right, click on Find by ID which is Person ID: GQH6-QW4. I would record this information if this is your line so that anything you can find that identifies him, you can add in his sources column. Also, there is an alert note that you should read.

To do further research, I would go to the Pennsylvania Wiki. When you click on Pennsylvania (in blue) at the top of this Group Page, it will take you to the Wiki for Pennsylvania. There is a wealth of information here that will guide you on where to search. Next, look in the right side bar under Record Types and click on Colonial Records. Scroll down the page and you can plan your next steps of what you want to search. New records are being added all the time. I wish you much success in finding your ancestors.
