I have found my wife's great-grandfather, Basil Pokorny, in Lviv, Lemburg, Galicia, Austria, in about 1870, but I have been unable to find where he originally came from. Does anyone know where this surname originated? I am at a dead end. Thank you.

Near as I can tell, pokorny is Polish for something like "commoner", so it doesn't originate from any one place.
