Trying to find verifiable sources linking father Thomas Hancock [ LZL7-1VN ] of Butler County, Ohio (1807-1887) to son Sylvender Hancock [ LZLW-9WY ] (1833-1902) After the death of Sylvender's mother Emeline Misner [ LH3J-DN1 ] he was raised by a Swanson Lunsford Griffith and his wife, Nancy Orcutt. Both father and son died in Indiana. I have researched several platforms (Ancestry, MyHeritage, FamilySearch, etc.) and spent time at the FamilySearch Center. I'm also reaching out to the Butler County Historical Society. I have some data but need to have clear proof of lineage to pass muster with Sons of the American Revolution. Thank you.

    FYI - "Sylvender" is his real name. I've tried many variants as well.

    Hi @RexHancock2. It looks like you've been thorough in your research. I think reaching out the Butler County historical society is a good idea. Hopefully they can advise you on where to look. Have you reached out to the one in Marion, Indiana as well? It's possible newspapers and church records could provide clues too, but getting that sort of information for the 1830s may be challenging.

    I believe I see your name on WikiTree. Did the DNA tests reveal any connection? Did any of his descendants from the second wife take a test to compare to? That seems like a great first step for determining parentage.

    Thanks for your response. I have reached out to many historical societies in Ohio and Indiana. Still waiting for responses from them. Unfortunately DNA results are not accepted by the Sons of the American Revolution beyond my 1st great-grandparents.

    @RexHancock2

    Have you tried the FamilySearch Wiki page for Genealogy in Indiana? There are pages of information on how to find death certs, and birth certs plus much more. I am not sure exactly what you are considering as clear proof of lineage? Can you advise on what is required for the lineage questions? Thank you
