Searching for parents of Mary Passwater nee James
Hello,
I'm conducting research on my 3rd great-grandmother, Mary Passwater nee James, born in Ohio in 1805. She married David Passwater/Paswater in Pickaway County (see attached) in March 1822. They were married until his death in Pickaway County in 1859 (no will or probate). She eventually went to live with relations in Indiana where she died on Oct 25, 1887 (obit attached).
I'm looking for suggestions as far as my next research steps to find her parents. I'd appreciate any advice/guidance.
Thanks for your time.
Bill

Hello @William Farrell_1. Have you checked Mary's 1880 census for where her parents were born? That will give you, although not always 100% accurately, a first step.
If this is it, her parents were likely from Delaware: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MH93-5GD

On this 1840 census, there's an Elias James living next door to David Passwater. He's the entry above his name, but for some reason, I don't see Elias on the side panel index. He was between 30 and 40 and could be a brother or relative of Mary's… Worth looking into:
It should also be noted that the Passwater family appears to be from Delaware too. It may be coincidence or there could be a connection.

Thanks for your responses. The 1880 census record is my Mary and, according to the census, her parents were born in Delaware. Mary's husband, David, was born in Delaware and his father, Richard, lived there. I think the Passwaters came to Delaware from Maryland but I don't have that fully documented yet.
Agree about you about the need to look further into Elias James. I hadn't considered that he might be a sibling or relation of Mary's. Because of his age, I ruled him out as a possible parent.
Thanks for your comments!

@William Farrell_1, this is also interesting— A Joshua James and David Passwater were subpoenaed as witnesses March of 1822 in Pickaway, right around when David was married. I don't know if that implies they were neighbors or anything, but intriguing all the same:

Yes, it is interesting. Thanks for sending. Joshua James and Elias James both lived in Wayne Township (separately) at the same time as David Passwater and wife Mary (James) were living there.
