It did okay with some of my New England surnames, but of my four French Canadian grandparents, it only had info for one - Couture. The others - Alary, Pouliot, Laverdiere, and my grandmother's mother's line - Thornton, it came up with zeros.

The info it brought up on the English names (excluding Thornton) was in line with what we had believed - Stowe, Langworthy, Darling, etc.). I was surprised it hadn't heard of Thornton.

A nice tool, especially for those just beginning their interest in family history.

UPDATE: They have added more surnames. Thornton, Pouliot, Alary and Laverdiere are all there - although it is linking Pouliot with a louse, as well as chick, which is not very nice (since my ancestors, down to my grandmother's mother - were Pouliots). Not a lot of detail on the French names but they have identified earliest French Canadian origins - a significant improvement from the initial launch. There are definitely French Canadian names and origins now. (Maybe when I initially looked it was not complete.) Most French Canadian names are there now, I think, so you can find about your name, and probably the first immigrants who had it. Well worth a look.
