In FamilySearch 'Search, Catalog - Ukraine" you can find quite a few records related to Ukraine. They may be at the national level, or a specific location. Church records may be helpful. Do you know where you were born?

@betheabunch gmail.com Using an Artificial Intelligence tool I was able to find this information that may be of help to you.

    From ChatGPT:

"Accessing adoption records in Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine, involves navigating various governmental and archival resources. Here are some avenues to consider:

    1. Bureau of Civil Status Acts (ZAGS):In Ukraine, civil registration, including adoption records, is managed by the Bureau of Civil Status Acts (ZAGS), which operates under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. To obtain adoption records, you can contact the local ZAGS office in Khmelnytskyi. Be prepared to provide necessary identification and documentation to support your request.

    2. State Archives of Khmelnytskyi Region:The State Archives may hold historical records pertinent to adoptions. They have digitized various documents, including church records and civil registrations, which might be relevant depending on the time period of the adoption. It's advisable to reach out directly to inquire about the availability of specific records.

    4. Online Adoption Reunion Registries: Platforms like Adopted.com offer reunion registries that facilitate connections between adoptees and birth families in Ukraine. While not official records, these registries can be valuable tools in your search.

    5. U.S. Department of State – Intercountry Adoption Information:If the adoption involved U.S. citizens, the U.S. Department of State provides information on intercountry adoptions, including guidance on accessing records and understanding the legal framework.

    6. FamilySearch – Ukraine Civil Registration: FamilySearch offers resources on Ukrainian civil registration, which may include adoption records. Their wiki provides insights into the types of records available and how to access them.

    Important Considerations:

    • Privacy Laws: Ukrainian privacy laws may restrict access to certain adoption records, especially if they involve individuals who are still living. It's essential to understand these regulations and be prepared for potential limitations.
    • Documentation: When requesting records, ensure you have all necessary documentation, such as proof of identity and any legal documents related to the adoption.
    • Language Barrier: Official records and communications may be in Ukrainian. Consider enlisting the help of a translator if you're not proficient in the language.
    • Professional Assistance: If navigating the process becomes challenging, you might consider hiring a professional genealogist or legal expert familiar with Ukrainian adoption records.

Initiating contact with the local ZAGS office in Khmelnytskyi is a practical first step. They can provide specific guidance on the availability of records and the procedures for obtaining them."

    I hope this helpful.

    David
