My great-grandfather, František Zítka, was born somewhere outside of Prague on 24 Feb 1872. His family moved to Stepan, Russia (now Stepan, Ukraine) around 1875. I have an FBI document (long story for another day) where "Frank" is questioned and he says that he left Stepan, Russia as a young man in order to serve in the Austrian-Hungarian military. I am told there are military records for Austria-Hungary for the time period in which my great-grandfather and his brothers would have served. Can someone help me find those records?

Thanks,

Nancy

@Nan Ellen I know you asked this almost 2 years ago, but in case you're still looking, the Vienna Military Archives contain documents relating to the Austrian military from the 1500s until the end of WWI (see https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Austro-Hungarian_Empire_Military_Records ) and might be able to help, though usually locating military records requires already knowing the regiment, etc. There's more info and links to potentially helpful collections at https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Austria_Military_Records
