Godparents
I have a question regarding godparents of Swedish immigrants.
How did families select the godparents of their children? How do you find information to link them to a family? Or did they just choose other members of the same congregation?
I found a record of my 2nd great-uncle Oscar George Haglund with his listed godparents: Erik Swenson, Mrs Anna Swenson, Swen E Swenson, Miss Bertha Maria Ellingson
They all lived in or around Bergen, McLeod County, Minnesota in the late 1800's, some being from Norway.

Godparents can be either other familymembers or friends, Sometimes there is information from where the Godparents lived , and from there you can see if you can trace if they are related.
