Hello everyone,

I am doing research on the family of George Knapp 1860-1951 and Harriett Hannah Taylor 1861-1929. In the eaarly 1900's I am find George and a few of their younger children in and out of a workhouse but often not together but I have been unable to find Harriett anywhere except on 1 workhouse record listing her as the mothe of some of the children. Was it normal for families to be separated and any suggestions on where I can go to find Harriet.

Thanks everyone for any help you can offer

Rebecca

Have you looked at the Wiki article? There may be some useful information there.

... and I'd reinforce the recommendation in that Wiki of going to Peter Higgenbotham's Web site (link in the Wiki). Peter is the go-to expert on the Poor Law for the UK's edition of Who Do You Think You Are? when Poor Law expertise is needed.
