Hey there. I am new to all this and searching for my Filipino ancestors. I haven't made it too far back, but this is what I know so far.

My grandmother is Matilde Sedillo, married to Honorio Quillao. They married in 1927 in Tanjay Negros Oriental Philippines.

No matter how much I search this, I can't find anything new. Most of the records I do find of their parents only have their name and sex. I can't find anything further than that.

Is there anywhere I can search further than Familysearch and Ancestry? Or is there anyone that can help me find more about my lineage?

Thank you so much!

    Dear Jenny:

We did find some records on the Wiki. Here is the link to that page. https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Philippines_Genealogy. Please post back on this Discussion page for more help, OK? PaulaAnn

    Hello!

Unfortunately there aren't a ton of repositories easily available online for Filipino research outside of the ones you already listed, aside from a collection of World War 2 records the National Archives digitized with a third party, but those records would not be helpful for you in the moment.

That being said, a large majority of what FamilySearch does have is not indexed well if it is indexed at all, so to be fruitful about understanding what FamilySearch does have, you have to search the collections by image--which can be rather tedious. Do you already have a record of the marriage? If not, I suggest looking in this collection (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSM8-3SY1-J?mode=g&cat=469956), which is marriages in the Catholic church in Tanjay from 1916 through 1949. Images 328 to 332 have an index that might be helpful in determining if your grandparents are in there. What they have for 1927 seem to start on image 404.

When I'm looking in a community record like this, usually I look for family names around those years. Sometimes the individuals I'm really wanting to find have siblings who get married in the same place but a few years before or after. Sometimes who I'm looking for might not be there, but a sibling will be. Sometimes it also helps to look at the children's generation for any records for them that might have additional details on the actual records--like a witness could be a family member--that could be helpful in figuring out where else you can look for your grandparents.

Another option, which I personally don't find as helpful for the areas I research but might be helpful to you, are the Notarial Records. FamilySearch has quite a few collections for Tanjay around the time your grandparents were married, so if they were able to buy a property sometime around when they were married or the births of their children, this collection (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSZ9-LS2K?view=explore&groupId=M9MT-HC9&grid=on) might be helpful.

Hope that helps! Don't give up!

    Emma
