Greetings,

I have located the probate record for an ancestor. I am not familiar with the format of Danish Probate records so transcription is very challenging. I would appreciate any help. As I understand it, Soren Christensen went to America, but we have not been able to determine how or where he died.

It is very hard to discern what is says but it ends with "bortløben" Søren Christian Christensen og hustru Juliemine Carloline Cronholms ?seperation..?.

So an official seperation between a missing husbond and his wife in 1875.

It does not state how long he has been missing.....

Juliemine Caroline Kronholm in Census 1870 alone without the husband.

Census 1860: Thisted, Hillerslev, Kaastrup Sogn, Kaastrup, Et huus, 18, FT-1860, D5306

Søren Christian Christensen  34  Gift  Smed. huusfader    Hillerslev S., Th. Amt

Juliamine Karoline Kronholm  28  Gift  Hans kone    Hjardemaal S., Th. Amt

Christian Peter Sørensen  7  Ugift  Deres børn    Her i Sognet

Kirstine Sørensen  5  Ugift  Deres børn    Her i Sognet

Carl Johan Sørensen  3  Ugift  Deres børn    Her i Sognet

Peder Christian Sørensen  1  Ugift  Deres børn    Her i Sognet

NB: So we know he was a smith!

This is very likely his emigration to the US and New York on the ship "Guiding Star" in 1869 in "Udvandreprotokollerne".

I think the last word is meant to a shortened form of "Seperations-bevilling".

So because her husband has been missing for several years she was granted a seperation, hence the skifte conducted.

So his whereabouts and if he is still alive (or not) is entirely unknown!

Your help is much appreciated. the census records and the ship record are correct, that is Soren. I located the same, but was. unable to locate his actual arrival in the US. He is not listed among arriving passengers at Ellis Island. Nor have I located him in the US census records. He seems to have disappeared. I was really hoping there would be some clue in the probate.
