Hello everyone,

When I was a little over 2 years old I was adopted from Petropavlovsk, Kazakhstan. I'm trying to find my biological parents, or siblings if I have any. However, I have no idea how to go about doing so. My biological surname was Zaporozhets. I'm hoping anyone might be able to help me in my search, thank you.

Have you done DNA yet? I would recommend doing it in as many places as possible. I just did a quick search of the name Zaporozhets in Ancestry, and a number of trees came up having that surname in them. They appear to be ancestors who lived in Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Russia. 10 members have that surname. In 23andme you cannot look at members who are not a DNA match to you, so I cannot see who is in that database with that name.

When I did a search of the world tree here for ancestors with the surname Zaporozhets, quite a few records came up.

It may be a long road, and you may have to travel back to your homeland to finalize your search, but there is quite a bit to start with here!

You may want to ask in the Adoption Research group. https://community.familysearch.org/en/group/1-adoption-research
